His Divine Grace Abhay Charanaravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada was born in Calcutta on September 1, 1896. As a simple traveling mendicant, he became an influential communicator of Krishna theology in the West through his leadership of ISKCON, founded in 1966. Srila Prabhupada’s work was lauded by many respected American religious scholars.
